My Willow Tree

October 23, 2024 - less than a minute read

The willow tree weeping

The weeping wilting willow tree
She cries!
She says she’s through with me
No more me and you
No more me and you

She has gone away unseen
Without saying goodbye
Her teardrops left puddles in the green
Her silky hair drifted through the sky

She said she wasn’t happy
With the way things have been
Her gazes do not come near me
Didn’t care to notice when

The weeping wilting willow tree
She cries!
She says she’s through with me
No more me and you
No more me and you

The years have passed
Since I saw her last
She has not forgotten
Love dark and overcast

And I am out jogging
On a warm summer’s day
I see her on the hilltop
Her hair a tinge more gray

The weeping wilting willow tree
She cries!
She says she’s through with me
No more me and you
No more me and you

I’m an old man now
My children have left my side
I’ve come to that old tree
I’ve come to say goodbye

But what I find brings me to tears
Her willow bark is beyond her years
A stump I find on that hill
A gray sky, fills me with chills

The weeping wilting willow tree
She cries!
She says she’s through with me
No more me and you
No more me and you
No more me and you
